REQUEST FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (EOI) TO BECOME A ‘FELLOW OF AFRIHEALTH OPTONET ASSOCIATION (FAHOA)’, WITH PARTICIPATION IN THE PRE-INDUCTION WORKSHOPS/PROGRAMMES FOR INCOMING FELLOWS
BACKGROUND
The Afrihealth Optonet Association (FAHOA) is a global network of over 3,000 civil society organisations (CSOs), academia, think tanks, researchers, development actors, and community-based groups working on health, environment/biodiversity, climate change, sustainable development, gender, governance, human rights, and related issues from 120 countries across all the Continents. AHOA promotes advocacy, partnerships, research, capacity building, outreaches/community engagements, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and multi-stakeholder engagement in pursuit of the SDGs, AU Agenda 2063, and other global development frameworks.
As part of our effort to honour excellence, foster leadership, and build a sustainable network of development influencers, AHOA is accepting Expressions of Interest (EOI) from qualified individuals to be each inducted as a Fellow of Afrihealth Optonet Association, and be entitled to use the letters FAHOA after their names.
OBJECTIVES OF THE FELLOWSHIP
- Recognize professionals and development actors with outstanding contributions to health, climate action, sustainable development, humanitarian interventions, human security, gender equity, good governance, human rights, community development, women development, welfare of older persons, and sustainable livelihoods.
- Build a prestigious body of experts, advisors, mentors, and ambassadors for AHOA and its programmes.
- Support regional collaboration, knowledge exchange, and policy advocacy through a strong Fellowship network.
- Mobilize Fellows to lead initiatives, contribute to research, and promote civil society engagement in Africa and globally.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Applicants must meet ANY of the following minimum qualifications:
· Academic Background: A university degree in any relevant field (e.g., health, environmental science, gender studies, law, agriculture, economics, public policy, international development, etc.);
· Professional Experience: Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in civil society, development, governance, public service, academia, or international cooperation;
· Track Record of Impact: Demonstrated leadership, innovation, or significant contribution to policies, community impact, research, or institutional strengthening;
· Integrity and Credibility: Known for ethical leadership, commitment to inclusive development, and respect for diversity and human rights;
· Commitment to AHOA’s Mandate: Willingness to support AHOA’s mission, serve as a mentor or resource person, and actively engage in knowledge sharing and advocacy;
· Endorsement: Nominated or endorsed by a member organization of AHOA or a credible institution in the development sector.
FELLOWSHIP BENEFITS
1. Official conferment and induction as a Fellow of Afrihealth Optonet Association, FAHOA.
- Visibility on AHOA platforms, to represent AHOA in local and international/United Nations Events, and opportunity to use the post-nominal title: FAHOA
- Access to exclusive policy dialogues, technical workshops, and strategic events.
- Opportunity to serve as a leader, mentor, technical advisor, on FAHOA projects and committees.
- Certificate of Fellowship and public recognition across appropriate AHOA’s publications and networks.
INDUCTION WORKSHOP FOR FELLOWS
All successful applicants must attend the Induction Workshop for Incoming Fellows, which is a requirement for formal conferment.
- Date: 6th & 8th August 2025
- Venue: Online Platform/Virtual via Zoom
- Starting Time (3 hours each day): 2:00 pm WAT / 9:00 am ET / 1:00 pm GMT/UTC) / 4:00 pm EAT / 8:00 pm Bangkok / 6:30 pm Delhi / 3 pm Kyiv/SAT/CET / 1 pm London / 10 am Rio / 9 am NYC / 8 am Bogotá / 7 am CentroAmerica / 4 am Baker Island
- Theme: “Fellowship for Leadership and Impact in Development Interventions”
- Participation Fee: US$150 per Fellow (to cover certificate of participation, workshop materials, digital listing, recognition plaque, certificate of recognition as Fellow, and logistics). Payments in Naira are welcome at the prevailing open market rate. Persons who wish to make payments in Naira are kindly requested to indicate so while emailing their CVs.
The global presentation of the Fellows shall hold during the Global Recognitions and African Civil Society Conference [GRACC 2026] to be held in Abuja, 24 – 26 February 2026. All the Fellows will be show-cased in the GRACC 2026 Brochure.
NOTE: Payment of the US$150 fee is mandatory for participation and must be completed before the induction workshop date. Payment details will be provided to selected candidates.
The AHOA Fellowship Selection Committee will review all applications based on merit and eligibility. Selected candidates will be notified within 2-4 days of submitting their CVs and invited to proceed with registration and participation in the induction workshop.
